Matthew Zigner

Middle School Math Teacher

Hi! My name is Matt Zigner. This is my 24th year at Middle Township and my 30th year teaching. I currently teach 8th grade math.

My dad was in the U.S. Navy when I was born. By the time I was 10 years old, I had lived in Florida, Puerto Rico, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. After my dad retired, we moved to Bloomsburg, PA, where I went to college.

I joined the Navy upon graduating high school, and I was also accepted at Bloomsburg University of PA to study Elementary Education.  This would have been an impossible mixture of things to do, except that my Navy duty was in the Active Reserves. Regardless, it was occasionally challenging to be a successful sailor & student at the same time.

While in the Navy, I got to do & see some interesting things. I served in California, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, & Spain. I even spent time aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Independence. In 1992, I received my Honorable Discharge for 8 years of service.

I received my Bachelors in Education with a minor in mathematics from Bloomsburg University in 1988.  I married my college sweetheart, Jane, and we moved to southern New Jersey that summer. In the past 30 years, I've taught 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th Grades! I am enjoying my current assignment teaching 8th grade math.

My wife & I celebrated our 31st anniversary this past summer.  We have two children.  Tom is 21 & Sarah is 18. We love to go to the beach, surf, kayak, play video games, and ride our bikes together.

I always seem to find myself surrounded by some sort of technology. My classroom is no different.  We use iPads, Chromebooks, graphing calculators, & 4k interactive touchscreen TV frequently!

I desire to help your child make positive changes in their abilities, and attitudes, about math.

Please don't hesitate to contact me.
